A New Year Surprise

Christmas 2024 was poignant as it was the first Christmas my mom and beloved grandma spent since the sad passing of my granddad. It was quite, but not sombre and we shared happy memories. For my cat family, it was life as usual and I enjoyed some quality time with them.

One such evening, home with the cats, watching Netflix, I heard my name called late in the evening. Peeping behind the curtain, I saw one of my neighbours with something in their hand. Lo and behold, he had this adorable kitten. Found wandering in the road. My neighbours all know I'm a cat mom and love all things feline, so where else would my neighbour have gone so late in the evening.

I took her in and my home was in uproar. Arista hid in the wardrobe and Sheba wouldn't stop hissing.

She was the sweetest and most affectionate fur baby you could imagine. I wanted to keep her, but my cats were not having it and in my heart, I knew with the space we live in, 5 was more than enough. Even though in reality it was 4 as Ginger lives outside.

Not being able to keep this cutie. After a few days I called Safe Cats Barbados and they were able to take her, having a small group of kittens she could go to.

That morning my heart felt so heavy (I really, really, really, did not want to part with her).

I took her to the vet for her checks and then took her to one of the Safe Cat's Barbados, fosterers.

My cats were happy, but I was not.

I was reminded of something very valuable though, during my melancholy of missing her, when I was sent photo's of her playing with the other kittens and saw how happy she was. Fostering isn't about 'us'. It's about doing what is in the best interest of the cat and ensuring they are somewhere safe and where they will be loved.
