Pictured at Safe Cats of Barbados & Ocean Acres Animal Sanctuary
This year I’ve had the privilege of spending time with two wonderful animal organisations in Barbados: Ocean Acres Animal Sanctuary and SAFE Cats of Barbados. Both are doing incredible work to improve the lives of cats and dogs on our island, and I was fortunate to experience their efforts first-hand.
When I visited Ocean Acres in St. John, I was there to do some filming on dog socialisation. Before the cameras started rolling, I went to the cattery. It was peaceful to spend time among the cats and brought back fond memories of when I was a regular volunteer.
Ocean Acres is not only a sanctuary but also a place where people and animals connect. Visitors can adopt, volunteer, or even join in on community events such as cat yoga and dog yoga, which bring people and animals together in a joyful way.
I also as mentioned spent time supporting SAFE Cats of Barbados (and will continue), which focuses on rescuing, caring for, and rehoming cats. One day I assisted a photographer with filming kittens and the cattery to help promote adoptions. On another occasion I accompanied a couple of their cats to the airport to meet passengers who were flying them to new homes overseas. It was rewarding to know I had played a small part in helping them on their way to a better life.
Both Ocean Acres and Safe Cats of Barbados rely on community support to continue their work. They provide food, shelter, medical care, and above all a chance for cats and dogs to live safely and happily.
If you would like to learn more or contribute, please visit my Give Back page, for direct links to their websites. Every donation goes towards the care of animals in need and helps ensure that they are given the chance they deserve.
Though I don't get to do it as often as I'd like, pending time with these organisations is nourishing for the soul and makes me happy. I am grateful for the people who dedicate their time and energy to creating a kinder, safer Barbados for animals.
If you visit Barbados, away from the beaches and sightseeing, spending time with rescue cats is not only a rewarding experience but also a whole lot of fun. From playful kittens to wise old cats, there's a furry friend waiting to steal your heart.
